Fall Classic Final Game Captures Over 50 Million Viewers In the United States, Canada and Japan Markets.

The exciting 11-inning contest where the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays by one run drew a total over 50 million watchers in the US, Canadian, and Japanese territories. MLB stated this represents the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

The Saturday epic game secured 27.33 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This marks a 16% increase over the previous Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked 4th, the fourth game was seventh, the fifth game came in 8th, and Game 3 finished in 13th position.

Global Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English program in Canada since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest started at 9 PM local time, it attracted 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series MVP Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – averaged over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Trends

The entire seven-match series averaged over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen audience growth for two straight years.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the complete US average was 16.1M. The total Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent increase compared to last year and Fox’s best postseason performance since 2017.

Major League Baseball stated that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 countries and territories by 44 media partners in sixteen various languages.
